Clean Up Your Audio Fast in Premiere Pro Using Just Built-In Tools

Updated: Aug 7

If you’re editing in Premiere Pro and your dialogue sounds a bit messy, maybe there’s background noise or that hollow, echoey room sound, there’s good news. You don’t need to buy expensive plugins or spend hours in advanced audio software to fix it.

Premiere Pro has two stock plugins built right in that can clean up your audio in seconds:

1. DeNoise

This plugin helps reduce unwanted background sounds like air conditioners, traffic, or low hums. It’s perfect for noisy environments where your mic picked up a bit too much of the room.

2. DeReverb

This one helps remove that roomy, echoey sound you sometimes get when recording in untreated spaces (like tiled rooms or big open offices). It doesn’t work magic, but it does make a noticeable difference fast.

Here’s a quick reel where I show you exactly how to use both:

Bonus Plugins I Also Love

While Premiere’s built-in tools are great for quick clean-ups, there are times when I need more control — especially for commercial projects or when the recording is really messy.

Here are two paid tools I’ve had great success with:

  • Waves Clarity VX & Clarity DeReverb – These are beginner-friendly and surprisingly powerful. Great results with almost no tweaking needed.

  • iZotope DeReverb (part of RX) – This one’s a bit more advanced but gives you surgical control over room tone and reflections. It’s been a go-to for me in live sound post work.

Who am I, you ask?

I'm Ben Hardie, a video editor, producer, and sound engineer with over 15 years of experience. I’ve worked on everything from global arena tours with The Wiggles, to branded content for Oporto, Coca-Cola, Woolworths and dozens of other Aussie businesses.

At Hiway Digital, I help creators, businesses, and agencies get better results from their video content, whether that’s through tighter edits, better audio, or just knowing what’s going to connect with your audience.

Wrap Up

If you’re editing in Premiere Pro, don’t overlook these two little tools. They’re fast, simple, and already built in, a no-brainer for levelling up your sound.
